A Regina teen with a spine disorder hopes to get his body brace back after two young people stole it from him last week.

A brace similar to this one was stolen from a Regina teenager on Friday.

The 15-year-old boy has scoliosis — an improper curvature of the spine — and wears a special brace 22 hours a day to treat his condition, say police.

He was walking near train tracks in the city's northwest end when he was confronted by two teenagers.

The suspects demanded the victim's belongings, including a backpack that contained the brace, and fled the scene.

The victim wasn't injured.

The two robbers were believed to be 16 or 17.

A representative from a local scoliosis support group said the stolen brace won't be easy to replace.

"They are all custom-made because of the variation of the curve and the curve location. Each one is, like I said, custom-fitted, and they are rather expensive," Llewyn Friars said.

Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich said she hopes the brace will be returned.

"Seeing that this brace would be of no use to them, they certainly might discard it," she said. "So anyone who comes across it can contact the Regina Police Service and we will see that it gets to the rightful owner."
