A 13-year veteran with the Ontario Provincial Police has been charged with several drug-related offences, the OPP says.

Const. Peter Williamson, 39, of Thunder Bay was arrested Saturday and charged with breach of trust, extortion and counselling to traffic in cocaine.

He will be held in custody until a bail hearing scheduled for Monday.

Provincial police said they expect to disclose more details over the next few days.

The OPP's professional standards bureau is conducting the investigation.
