BSN Standings

SAN JUAN (BSN) - Brujos from Guayama and Leones from Ponce have both suffered defeats in their opening two games in the second stage of Puerto Rico's BSN league.

The sides that finished first and second, respectively, in the first phase both went down to the teams that finished eighth and seventh.

Last year's runners-up Vaqueros from Bayamon first saw off Brujos 95-71, Norman Nolan top-scoring with 21 points.

They then hit Leones 89-77, Alejandro 'Bimbo' Carmona pouring in 19 points and Franklyn Western contributing 18.

Leones, who finished the first stage 17-9, had earlier gone down 77-72 to Conquistadores from Guaynabo, Kevin Sheppard netting 24 points.

Brujos became Conquistadores' next victims, 28 points from Corey Benjamin leading them to a 99-94 triumph.

The results leave David Rosario's Vaqueros and Rafael Torres' Conquistadores as the early pacesetters in the second phase.

Cangrejeros from Santurce, coached by Flor Melendez, hit Grises from Humacao 82-72, largely thanks to 22 points from Ricardo Dalmau.

However, they could not climb to the top of the standings in the eight-team second stage after they lost 79-69 on their visit to Criollos from Caguas at the Hector Sola Bezares stadium.

Reigning champions Capitanes from Arecibo are mid-table following one win and one defeat.

They began by beating Criollos 89-81 but were beaten 95-94 on their trip to Grises.

The second stage sees all eight teams play in home-and-away matches to determine the four semi-finalists.
