MADRID (ACB) - Winterthur Barcelona didn't win the Copa del Rey and they came up short at the Euroleague Final Four but coach Dusko Ivanovic & Co are looking good in the ACB play-offs after a second straight win against Real Madrid.
Barcelona defeated the defending champions 88-70 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five quarter-final.
Shammond Williams had 19 points to lead Barcelona.
With Serbo-Montenegrin scoring machine Igor Rakocevic and center Venson Hamilton both ill and unavailable in the series, a weakened Real have found it very difficult to contend.
DKV win at end
Late-season acquisition Randy Holcomb made a three-pointer in the final seconds to give DJV Joventut a 72-69 victory at Gran Canaria and a 2-0 advantage in the series.
Lubos Barton, who had a team-high 20 points for DKV, had given the visitors a 69-68 lead with a little more than a minute to play with one of his two three-balls.
Sitapha Savane, who is pushing for a place in Senegal's squad for the FIBA World Championship, then went to the line for the hosts and made just one of two with 31 seconds remaining to set the stage for Holcomb.
Elmer Bennett launched a three-pointer that missed, but Alex Mumbru grabbed the offensive rebound.
Bennett got the ball back and picked out Holcomb, and the American nailed his three for his only points of the game, and the narrow win.
Unicaja prevail again
Unicaja Malaga also lead their quarter-final 2-0 after an 88-73 triumph at Estudiantes on Sunday.
Spanish international power forward/center Jorge Garbajosa led the way for Unicaja, making six of nine from the arc on his way to 24 points.
Fran the man
Akasvayu Girona showed they will not be brushed aside by Copa del Rey winners Tau Ceramica, levelling their series with an 83-74 home triumph.
Girona led by just one at half-time but outscored Tau 25-14 in the third quarter en route to victory.
Fran Vazquez, an NBA lottery pick by the Orlando Magic last summer, led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points for Akasvayu, while also grabbing 10 rebounds.
