TORONTO - Canada Basketball announced today that the final roster spot for the 2006 National Elite Development Academy (NEDA) has been filled by Moncton, New Brunswick's Elyse Jobin.
NEDA is a new initiative of Canada Basketball which brings together 12 of Canada's top female basketball players, ages15-17, from across the country to train under the guidance of Canada Basketball coaches at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
Jobin, a 5'11" guard, played on New Brunswick's Under 15 and Juvenile teams. She was a second-team all-star at the National Midget Championships for the past two years. Jobin also attended the 2005 Nike All-Canada Camp, a NBIAA all-star in 2006, and co-rookie of the year at École Mathieu-Martin under the guidance of coach Mike Woodworth.
"I was surprised, but very excited to learn I was selected for NEDA. I am looking forward to competing at such a high level and am willing to work my hardest, to improve my game and have lots of fun," commented Jobin.
The NEDA program will commence in September 2006 with the women's section of the academy, followed by the men's side in 2007. The academy will run for the academic year, September to June.
Athletes where selected from Canada Basketball's national age group depth chart which is continually updated and managed by the Women's National Development Coach. NEDA candidates are chosen by the Women's National Development Coach in consultation with NEDA Head Coach, the Women's Senior National Team Head Coach and the Manager of Women's Elite Performance.
