TREVISO (Lega A) - Benetton Treviso and Italy were rocked on Tuesday by a season-ending injury to Matteo Soragna.

The 1.98m forward suffered a broken hand in Benetton's play-off quarter-final victory against Armani Jeans Milano.

Soragna, a member of Italy's silver-medal winning side at the Olympics, requires an operation on his right hand and will not take part in the rest of the post-season.

He is also a huge doubt for Italy's squad at the FIBA World Championship, which tips off in August in Japan.

Soragna, who got hurt early in the game, said: "I'm very upset because I was looking forward to making a contribution in these play-offs.

"It's a big blow but I think it summarises our season.

"We've had a bad year in terms of injuries, with Nikos Zisis, Ramunas Siskauskas and now me."
