RIO DE JANEIRO (Campeonato Nacional) - The second game of the best-of-five finals of Brazil's Campeonato Nacional was postponed after a judge suspended the competition.
Franca and Ribeirao Preto were scheduled to play the second game of the finals, in which Ribeirao Preto were 1-0 ahead.
But Universo/BRB went to court claiming Telemar guard Arnaldinho played against them when he was ineligible.
Universo/BRB are demanding that the points from first game of the hexagonal semi-final round which was won 95-88 by Telemar on May 17 with Arnaldinho top-scoring on 21 points are awarded to them.
If they are awarded the points then Universo/BRB would go into the final against Franca.
The judge decided to suspend the competition until he investigates whether the player's contract is legal.
Telemar claim that Arnaldinho's contract was legal as the Brazilian Basketball Confederation had allowed the deal to go through following a court decision.
Also the Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo and Parana State federations have accused Brazilian Basketball Confederation president, Gerasime Bozikis, and eight officials of mis-managing the CBB finances and gone to court.
But the presidents of the other 21 State federations have signed a letter of backing Bozikis and his team and added: "This is a fight that is destroying Brazilian basketball."
