A stolen therapeutic back brace has been returned to a 15-year-old Regina boy who has a spine disorder, and two older teens are facing charges in the theft.

FROM MAY 24, 2006: Brace stolen from Regina teen with scoliosis

The charges stem from an May 19 incident in the northwest corner of the city.

The teen uses the custom-made brace for his scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine. He was walking along with the brace in his backpack when he encountered two older boys.

They demanded his belongings and took the backpack containing the brace, police said earlier this month.

After police put out a public request for help, they got a call from a man who had found the brace and some other items in his yard.

Further investigation led to arrests of two 16-year-olds on May 25 and 27.

One of the teens has been charged with robbery and the other with possession of stolen property. Both will appear in youth court on June 26.

Names of the two can't be made public under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
