Police are investigating the death of a man in Quebec's Mauricie Region, where a destructive storm caused flooding and landslides this week.

Heavy rains caused this section of road to collapse along the St-Maurice River near La Tuque, Que. (CBC)

The man's body was found on a Hydro-Quebec work site.

Initial reports suggested the man, who was from the Weymontachi reserve near La Tuque, was hit by lightning.

FROM MAY 31, 2006: Severe weather warnings follow Quebec flooding

About 100 millimetres of rain pounded the La Tuque area in a few hours on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Several roads serving the city of about 11,000 were washed out, including part of the main route along the St-Maurice River.

The Quebec government has promised financial aid to residents, some of whom were evacuated by helicopter after flooding cut off access to their homes.
