Around 2000 members of the Church of Scotland Guild are expected to gather in Glasgow this weekend for spiritual refreshment during the movement’s annual meeting.

The Guild is the largest voluntary organisation in Scotland with 35,000 members and works to serve and strengthen disadvantaged communities and individuals both within Scotland and also abroad.

The body will also gather for the launch of its new strategy, Let’s Live: Body, Mind and Soul.

The day will be chaired by national convener, Lesley McCorkindale, and will present speakers including the Moderator of The General Assembly of The Church of Scotland, the Right Rev Alan McDonald.

The prolific Christian writer speaker Adrian Plass will also speak at the event. As one of the country’s best known Christian writers, Plass has turned out more than 20 books over the last 18 years.

His best selling book is the Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass which has sold more than one million copies.

Members of the Guild will also hear from May Nicholson, an alcoholic who managed to abandon drink at the age of 35 after almost 20 years of alcohol abuse.

The reformed alcoholic will give testimony to the transformation in her life through her conversion to Christianity as well as the work she now does serving the Preshal Trust – an organisation that offers help and counselling in Govan, Glasgow.

Mary McDevitt will lead a performance by The Edinburgh Signing Choir which will round off the event with a unique and reflective moment.
