National Preparedness Level 3 (On a scale from 1 to 5)

September 18, 2007

Firefighters continue to gain in their suppression efforts. Cooler and wetter weather conditions will continue over the large fires in the West this week.

Weather Discussion: Mild weather is predicted to continue in southern California with gusty winds in the mountains. Scattered showers are expected in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana with dry weather throughout the remaining western states.

Butler 2 (San Bernardino National Forest): 14,039 acres at 53 percent contained. This fire is located eight miles northeast of Running Springs. Active fire behavior continued. Communities are threatened and evacuations and road closures remain in effect.

Angel (Monte Vista Unit, CAL Fire): 850 acres at 75 percent contained. This fire is 12 miles east of Julian. Active fire behavior was observed. Road closures remain in effect.

2007 Central Idaho Fire Information
Rattlesnake (Nez Perce National Forest): 102,000 acres at 25 percent contained. This fire is 25 miles south of Elk City. Precipitation fell over the fire yesterday.

Cascade Complex (Boise National Forest): 299,932 acres at 28 percent contained. This complex is 27 miles east of Cascade. Structures, power lines, cultural sites, and historical cabins continue to be threatened. Evacuations and road closures remain in place.

East Zone Complex (Payette National Forest): 293,713 acres at an unknown percent contained. This complex is made up of four fires, 25 miles northeast of McCall. Minimal fire activity was reported. Road closures and evacuations remain in effect.

Krassel Complex (Payette National Forest): 85,900 acres. This Wildland Fire Use (WFU) complex is being managed to accomplish natural resource objectives. This complex is 44 miles northeast of Yellow Pine.

Conger Creek (Lolo National Forest): 25,000 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is 20 miles north of Ovando. Precipitation fell over the fire yesterday.

Fool Creek (Lewis and Clark and Flathead National Forests): 60,038 acres at 40 percent contained. The fire is 30 miles northwest of Choteau. Fire activity included creeping and smoldering.

Corporal (Flathead National Forest): 15,553 acres at zero percent contained. This fire is 47 miles southeast of Kalispell.
