USB Sound Cards - Sound Portability and Function

Sound cards or audio cards are computer expansion cards that facilitate input and output sounds in a computer. Normal uses of a sound card include providing audio components for applications using multimedia like editing audio or video, musical compositions, presentations, and entertainment. Most computers have built-in sound capabilities while others need expansion sound cards if audio capabilities are needed.

USB sound cards control audio devices that are connected unto a computer like amplifiers and speakers. They plug into a computer’s USB port, making them relatively compatible and fairly easy to use and transfer between two or more computers. Because they are easy to transfer, USB sound cards are designed for use on devices like laptops, tablet PCs, and other electronic devices that provide mobility in usage.

Kinds

USB audio input and output sound card: USB input and output sound cards have plug-and-play features that allow them to be used without the need to install any driver software. They support various input devices like recorders and microphones, and output devices such as subwoofers and speakers. They are used to connect audio equipment like microphones, home stereos, powered speakers, and sometimes, musical instruments.

USB converter sound card: USB converter sound cards convert audio signals in analog format into digital format and vice versa. They are used to connect analog-format devices like electronic equipment and cassette players to the computer.

Buying tips

When buying USB sound cards, there are two things you have to consider – transfer speed and wireless support. In terms of transfer speed, look for a sound card that comes with high-transfer speeds to ensure continuous playback and to reduce skips and lags. With regards to wireless support, consider choosing a sound card that utilizes Bluetooth connections or Wi-Fi if you are planning on setting up a wireless entertainment system.
