Pacific Crest Trail Hike #1: Desert View Picnic Area to Penny Pines Monument
Sunday, October 14, 10 am - 4 pm, Meet at Penny Pines monument, mile 27.3 on S1 for vehicle shuttle, Members $35; Non-members $45
A 6-mile, relatively flat hike of moderate difficulty, with expansive views of the desert and mountains. Bring lunch, water, and other essentials.

Beginning Tracker/Naturalist Class
Friday, October 26, 7 - 9 pm and Saturday, October 27, 8 am to 4:30 pm, ABDSP Visitor Center Members $50; Non-members $60 (per session)
Tracking is an age old art - the ground has a wealth of stories for those who take the time to learn to read it. This is the first session in a 3-part training program.

Stout and Begole Research Centers: Behind the Scenes in Collections
Saturday, October 28, 1 - 4 pm; Sunday, October 29, 9 am - noon, Meet at ABDSP Visitor Center (Groups leave every half hour), Sugg. Donation: $5
Visit a working paleontology laboratory at the Stout Research Center, and get an insider’s tour of the Begole Archaeological Research Center.

Desert Moon Dreams with astronomer Dennis Mammana
Saturday, October 27, 7:00 pm ABDSP Visitor Center, Members $10; Non-members $15
Diana, Aphrodite, Isis - for centuries she’s inspired us in poetry, art and song, and tonight we’ll explore the many ways we are touched by the moon’s magical light.

Pacific Crest Trail Hike #2: Penny Pines Monument to Kwaaymii Point
Sunday, October 28, 9:30 am - 4 pm, Meet at Kwaaymii Point, mile 30.3 on S1, for vehicle shuttle, Members $35; Non-members $45
A moderate 4-mile hike with gradual ups and downs, plus a steep 2-mile side trip to Garnet Peak, offering stunning panoramic views. Bring lunch, water, and other essentials.

Desert Exploration 101:  Reptile Route
Thursday, November 1, 9:30 am - 4 pm, Meet on S3 at entrance to Tamarisk Grove Campground, Members $35; Non-members $45
Learn some of the skills necessary for desert hiking as we explore Lizard Canyon and Chuckwalla Wash on this 7-10 mile moderately strenuous hike. Bring lunch, water, and other essentials.

Anza-Borrego 101
Thursday, November 1, 7 pm at the A16 retail store, 4620 Alvarado Canyon Road, San Diego
Thursday, November 8, 7 pm at the A16 retail store, 2002 South Coast Highway, Oceanside
An introduction to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, by guidebook author Diana Lindsay.

Ancient Cahuilla Tour  with Paul Johnson  (High clearance 4WD required)
Saturday, November 3, 8 am to 3:30 pm. Meet at ABDSP Visitor Center flagpole with a full tank of gas, Members $35/ Non-Members $45
This 100-mile tour of the Ancient Cahuilla property includes fish traps, cleared circles, great scenery, and four short hikes on rough, steep terrain. Limit 16 people.

Rockhouse/Butler Canyon loop hike  with Lowell and Diana Lindsay (High clearance 4WD recommended)
Sunday, November 4, 8:30 am - 5 pm, Meet at turnout for Rockhouse Canyon Road, mile marker 26 on Highway S-22, Members $35; Non-Members $45 This strenuous 10-mile loop hike includes Hidden Spring in Rockhouse Canyon, traverses Jackass Flat with its Cahuilla Indian sites, and returns via magnificent Butler Canyon.  Each hiker must be in good physical condition and carry water and all essentials.

Desert Stargazing:  Finding Our Way  with astronomer Dennis Mammana
Saturday, November 10, noon - 5 pm, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center, Members $25; Non-members $35
The basics of stargazing are covered in this introductory class—what’s in the sky and how to find our way around the maze of stars and constellations with tools as simple as a star map and a flashlight.

Film Premiere:  The Ghost Mountain Experiment
Saturday, November 10, 7:30 pm, Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center, Suggested donation $10
Join filmmaker John McDonald for this special screening of his feature-length documentary chronicling the complex and controversial story of the Marshal South family.

A strenuous 10-mile hike, with steep ups and downs, through breathtaking landscapes.  Bring lunch, water, and other essentials.
