Winter Weather Funny and Unforgettable Stories
As a Floridian I don't really ever truly experience winter weather. When my parents took me and my little brother up to North Carolina one winter, as we walked along the icy river, I slipped and nearly fell off a wall into the chilly river. Were it not for the help of my dad and a local pedestrian who helped me up off the slippery ice, I would have dropped 40 feet down into icy waters.
My next debut came in high-school when my church youth group went to Wisconsin to go snow skiing and a ate it hard head first once I reached the end of the slope. Nobody bothered to teach me how to stop or get proper clothing in which to ski. So when my jeans got wet when I fell, it made for quite a cold day for this Floridian. I thought my family jewels would be forever frozen and ruined.
Days later I got to ride in a locals car at full speed on a massive Wisconsin lake fully iced over. Suddenly he slammed on the breaks and began doing donuts! Woo-hoo! Fun Stuff! Some new and memorable experiences indeed for one only accustomed to soaking up the sun!
Years later as an adult when returning from 6 months of working in warm Taiwan, I had to go through Toronto, Canada where I spent a night in transit. I didn't have any warm winter clothing and thought I was going to die. As I jumped out of a toasty van to walk 20 yards to enter a Chinese restaurant the air was so cold I could feel it in my bones - something I had never felt before.
Incidentally years later when I went to the former Soviet Union I was well prepared with warm attire and a heart on fire. Now a world traveler who has been to over 50 countries, I know how to endure the cold, but still prefer the warm climates. Nevertheless there are always warm hearted people everywhere. My Canadian wife can attest to that. Thankfully she was quite happy to move to Florida after we got married.
