Am I Being Negative If I'm Not Liking a Bunch of TV Shows I Used to Like?

My mom stopped by the blog recently and did some reading, she thought things sounded a little negative. But considering she read the piece about the guy stealing from me-I was being negative. But today I'm trying to write with more of an even keel. So let's do a review.

Lost is...lost. I mean first of all WHERE is it? And second, I can't watch that show on a weekly basis. I have to get about 10 episodes and watch as many as I can in one sitting KNOWING I've already got additional episodes in reserve. Because if I go at THEIR pace I'm screwed as a viewer. I'm pretty much saying "thank you, but don't you make me a sandwich, just lay out the stuff and I'll make my own."

Battlestar Galactica, now this is weird. I thought last season WAS the last season. But Kevin Smith wrote on his blog today that he's been offered a chance to direct an episode again, so I guess it's not over. And even though it doesn't need to be said; the first season of that show was amazing. Speaking of guest directors, Joss Whedon just directed the Nov. 1 episode of the Office. And that show, My Name is Earl, and 30 Rock are still good as far as I'm concerned.

Heroes this season is OK. But it's just that. It's not blowing me away. It reminds me of season 2 and 3 of Battlestar, just sort of going forward. Story is happening, characters are doing stuff, and it's expanding the general world....but...I don't know...

I think back to a movie I like; Unbreakable. A close friend of mine did not like that movie but I did. The connection of people with superheroes, or rather superpowers in a dramatic (as opposed to straight action) context. And that's really the deal; superpowers in the Marvel vein. That montage where Bruce Willis stands there, reaches out, and feels SO many ugly parts of humanity is just heavy. And that's sort of what I got in Heroes first season.

Bionic Woman is a new show, but it's DOA. In fact if you read this pmiece*, you'll find out that the production staff has ALREADY changed hands multiple times. Apparently they've got the Battlestar people running the show now, so I hope that saves it. But for me the first episode was kinda interesting and then I just lost interest. That's it.

Newcomers Chuck and The Reaper are good. The first episode of Chuck was directed by Charlie's Angels McG, and he's also producing the show. But I am still bummed they killed The Loop (which featured the guy from the Reaper). Another Newcomer this January is Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and that female oriented show IS good. I saw the pilot about 2 months ago. See what are you watching?

David T Rosenthal. Chicago native, lived in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. Graduated Columbia University. Did film/tv acting. Studied Bujinkan Taijutsu. Comic book and movie fan. Renovating my home.
